Lighthouse Gallery

Lighthouses - photos of various North Shore lighthouses ranging from those on Duluth's piers to Grand Marais' light. Naturally included are numerous photos of the widely known and photographed Split Rock Lighthouse.

Waterfalls - images of rivers tumbling and cascading toward Lake Superior from the North Shore highlands. Photos from the popular Gooseberry Falls to Minnesota's highest waterfall, High Falls on the Pigeon River, can be found here.

Rivers - Some rivers can be scenic without large waterfalls. The Temperance River is the most notable example of this, and several photographs of this river are included.

Superior Shore - included photos exhibit the spectacular rocky shoreline of Lake Superior. Palisade Head and Shovel point are the best known palisades (series of cliffs) on Lake Superior's North Shore.

Wildlife - photos include various creatures inhabiting the North Shore. The collection currently includes photos of white-tailed deer and a red squirrel. Photos of other animals will be added in the future as they become available.

Duluth - photographs showcase Duluth's world-class harbor, the canal park region, and other scenic highlights throughout the city. Landmarks currently included are the 100-year-old Aerial Lift Bridge and Enger Memorial Tower.

Gardens, Wildflowers, & Plant Life - images feature urban gardens such as the Duluth Rose Garden as well as plants, fungi, and wildflowers that inhabit the Northwoods along Lake Superior's North Shore.

Seasons - photos reveal spectacular shows of fall foliage and snow covered landscapes throughout the lower North Shore, adding to the already dramatic area scenery.

Miscellaneous & Backcountry - images that do not fit well into the other galleries. Also included are pictures from the backcountry region, particularly from along the Superior Hiking Trail.
